India Australia Education Council to Be Constituted

A landmark initiative to constitute the India-Australia Education Council has been agreed on by India and Australia A first of its kind, this Council will bring together government, academia, business and industry of both the countries to further bilateral collaboration in the education sector. Shri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, and Ms. Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, Australia decided upon this in a meeting held yesterday in Melbourne, Australia, in recognition of the fact that education is central to sustained, inclusive and equitable growth.
Two other landmark initiatives agreed by the Ministers include setting up a Joint Faculty Development Programme as also the organisation of a bilateral Inter University Convention of Vice Chancellors. These initiatives, together with the expansion of the existing Education Exchange Programme to include all levels of education, are aimed at greater cooperation in the education sector between the two countries.
Three MoUs in the field of education were also signed in the presence of the two Ministers :

Issues relating to the safety and well being of Indian students in Australia and other related matters were also discussed. The two Ministers emphasised that people-to-people contacts, including student interactions, are at the heart of the bilateral relationship, in building bridges of friendship and understanding and acting as a significant resource for future development of the relationship.
Later in the day, Shri Sibal discussed with Premier Brumby, the steps taken so far by the Victorian government to address the concerns of international students. In this meeting, Shri Sibal expressed his deep concern on the continued incidents of assaults on Indian students and requested Premier Brumby for credible data on the incidents that have taken place over the past one year as also information relating to the status of the trials, the charges framed and convictions. He stressed the importance of setting up an institutional mechanism for sharing such information. Series mistakes In IIT-JEE_2010:Printing Error In IIT-JEE-2010

A senior IIT professor has pointed out ‘‘serious blunders’’ in this year’s IIT-JEE test that concluded on Sunday. He claims a clever student can get 93 marks without any preparation.
The claim was made by Rajeev Kumar, professor of computer science, IIT Kharagpur. IIT-Madras, which conducted the JEE has, however, disputed his claim. Kumar has been pointing out problems with JEE for the past four years and has even gone to the Delhi High Court.
Kumar has pointed out that Paper I had 28 questions each in maths, physics and chemistry, of three marks each, divided into four sections. He has raised concerns about Section II.
The section had five questions of three marks each, one or more correct answers (partial marking) and no negative marking for incorrect answers. Kumar says if a candidate darkened all the circles then he could deserve full credits.
“Since there is no negative mark for any wrong answers, one cannot deduct marks for darkening the wrong bubble (circle). All right bubbles are anyway marked, so one has all correct answers marked along with wrong bubbles for which there are no negative marks. Therefore, IIT cannot deduct marks. Thus a student can get 5X3 = 15 marks each in mathematics, physics and chemistry without applying his mind,” he contends.
IIT-Kharagpur professor Rajeev Kumar’s claim that the IITJEE test has more flaws than meets the eye was contested by T S Natarajan of IIT-Madras, who is involved with the exam. Disputing Kumar’s contention that a clever student can get up to 93 marks by darkening all options in answers to certain questions.
Natarajan says, “If all four options are shaded for a question for which there are less than four correct answers then the candidate gets zero. To avail partial mark the number of choices shaded should not exceed the number of correct choices and must include at least one of the correct choices.”
Kumar, however, points out that the instructions say something else. “Nowhere do the instructions say that four choices cannot be correct. They also do not state that you cannot mark all the choices,” Kumar argues.
Kumar gives another example from section IV of paper II with two questions of eight marks each.

Printing Error

Students appearing for IIT JEE were confused on Sunday, Apr 11, because of printing error as subject-heads of Mathematics and Physics were interchanged.
The section where students were supposed to mark their Mathematics responses had ‘Physics’ written on it and vice versa. This led to confusion among the students.

NIIT University MBA Programme Placement-2010

In addition to the existing Engineering courses, NU presents a two-year, residential MBA program with unique features that use the University’s core principles of seamlessness and Industry-Linkage as the foundation of its program design.
Through a transformational process involving courses, projects, internships, leadership interactions, finishing school and other distinctive co-curricular components, the program seeks to create exceptional leaders trained to operate in today’s complex business environment.
The NIIT University MBA identifies 9 key attributes that its graduates must possess, and the program design is built around these objectives. These attributes are:
1.        General Management capability
2.       Specialisation& contemporariness – advanced domain competency
3.       Industry-linked, and ready for first-day-first-hour productivity at post-
4.       MBA job
5.       Superior communication, personality & professional life skills
6.       International exposure and Global perspective
7.       Strong analysis & application orientation
8.      Research-driven

10.   Sensitivity to society, environment, ethics and human values
The MBA program at NU demands and encourages the student to explore and connect with the multiple dimensions that today’s manager is required to deal with – local, global, analytical, hands-on, efficient, strategic, ethical, people-
oriented, inclusive, green, technologically-advanced, self-enlightened – are only a few of the diverse range of words that illustrate the numerous facets of a manager’s concerns. The NU MBA program immerses the student into these
multiple domains. As a result, the MBA-graduate is equipped with capabilities required to seamlessly navigate between the seeming contradictions that operating managers face, such as:
·          Between profitability & growth and ethics & human values
·          Between streamlined operations and innovation & research
·          Between organizational efficiency and individual self-enlightenment
·          Between academic theory and real-life management practice
